Ahhh, to be nicknamed Superman and the presumed Heisman Trophy favorite (muchas gracias to the torn ACL of one Dennis Dixon).Ahhh, to have a suspect defense that forces you to play deep into games against even the gimmiest of opponents and pad your already Heisman-worthy stats.
Such is the life of your likely next Heisman Trophy winner.
Tim Tebow accounted for 4 touchdowns and nearly 400 yards in beating Florida Atlantic 59 to 20. After rushing for an SEC record five touchdowns last week, Tebow went to the air today in tossing three touchdowns and 338 yards (.714). He did toss an interception, but also was Florida's second-leading rusher (backup quarterback Cameron Newton bested Tebow 46 yards to 31) in a 369 yard afternoon.
Great job, kid. Just don't mess up against Florida State (or, possibly, the SEC Championship Game) and the trophy is yours.

Enjoy Tebow while he's around, he's a living legend. Hopefully nothing derails his destiny. He's possbily the most entertaining athlete I have ever seen.
As for Dixon, it's sad what happened to him, but at the same time he was very fortunate to play against those weak defenses in the Pac10. It wasn't "just" for him to get injured, but it's just that Tebow win the Heisman over him. When you think about it Dixon's life was made much easier by his conference and the fact he plays with a bruising runningback like Stewart. Tebow does both their jobs against tougher competition and his body has held up while Dixon's brokedown.

Tebow probably does win the Heisman regardless of what Dixon does if he doesn't get hurt. The comment about Dixon "not holding up" show ignorance about the game of football. The knee is a fragile point in the human body-- and playing football causes this joint to sustain impacts that it was not humanly designed to withstand. This comment is a demonstration of ignorance both of the game and the situation with Dixon: Football is a violent sport and the comment was callous and unnecessary. Dixon sustained his injury in a prior game and his attempt to cut on that knee finished his season.

It's Tebow's to lose at this point. I feel bad for Dixon. Heck of a year and career and my hat's off to him. Anyone who can put Oregon football on the college football landscape is a stud in my eyes. No disrespect to the Ducks but, let's face it, its not the first Pac 10 team I think about, or two or three. I love what they have done.
As for TT, I am curious to see what happens with UF next year when the returning QB is a Heisman winner. Anyone with any stats concerning returning QBs or RBs? I may do some research on this one. I can think of Jason White right now, Matt Leinart, etc.
A lot of pressure will be on UF next year because of TT. The Gators will likely be a preseason Top 5 team with the brightest spotlight. And their first three games are Hawaii, Miami and at Tennessee. I can't make this crap up! The scheduling gods have a sense of humor and the networks are going to make a pile of cash on these games. UF's sophomore/freshman secondary against Hawaii's "Run and Shoot", Miami's "We own UF mantra" and UT, thanks to the aforementioned scheduling Gods we didn't play LSU but gave up 50 to UF are going to be the defending East Champs. Man, next year can't come soon enough!

Regarding the Heisman; truly may the best man win.
And more often than not, it has been Tim Tebow this season. So far as his first year as a starter, he has shown to be an even better college football player than Steve Spurrier and Danny Wuerffel. Both Heisman winners. If there was no Tebow this season, Chase Daniel would get my vote.

A, my point was just that if you'd have thought anyones body was to breakdown, you would think Tebow's would, considering how much more he does for his team and how much abuse he takes and even puts up better numbers against tougher defenses. I wasn't trying to knock Dixon, I was praising Tebow for his incredible durability. He truly is the Superman of quarterbacks... at least to this point. Knock on wood.

I don't think pressure will be much of a problem for Tebow. I don't think he could have much more pressure than he had coming into this season with all the hype on him and following up the championship last season. The pressure probably did effect the defense, though. That experience could help them next season.

I should remind everyone that the best player in college football does not necessarily play in a "major" conference. If the Heisman criteria still involves leadership, character, determination, and production. Take a look at Kevin Smith, RB from UCF. He has put up some pretty solid numbers against decent competition. I encourage everyone to do a little research. I've come across some great clips on Youtube that are worth a look. The lack of national coverage reminds me of that kid from TCU a few years back. What was his name? Thompson, Tomlinson, something like that. He turned out to be pretty good. Check him out.

It would be the greatest injustice in history if Tim Tebow is denied the Heisman Trophy. Even if he were a Freshman he would deserve. The records stand on their own. Even if he didn't play against Florida State and Florida lost I believe Tim is miles ahead of the nearest players.
Tim has everything going for him. First, he loves playing football and it shows! Secondly, he is fearless on the field, strong as an ox, and tough as nails! Thirdly, he looks like a champion. Fourthly, with 20+ passing touchdowns and 20+ rushing touchdowns (and this has never been done before), he should be locked in as the winner right now.
I told my wife last year, when Tebow was a freshman, that he would be a force as a starting quarterback and a candidate for the Heisman Trophy. It feels good to be right!
I'm from Mississippi, but Tim Tebow is a hero in my eyes and the best football player I've ever seen. Before they finishing that 25 top college football players of all-time, they'd better save a place for Tim Tebow--like no. 1!

Nice post, Mike Bagett. More people need to come out of the closet and admit how good Tebow is. For some reason people are afraid to say it. It's pretty bizarre. It also shouldn't have taken Dixon getting injured for people to be saying it. Dixon is a very goof player, but he's just not in Tebow's league. No one is right now. And amazingly Tebow is just scratching the surface of what he is capable of.

It boggles my mind to read some of the words written by grown men, predominately of the midwest and the south. And i quote, "Tim has everything going for him. First, he loves playing football and it shows! Secondly, he is fearless on the field, strong as an ox, and tough as nails! Thirdly, he looks like a champion." This has got to be a joke. Please tell me it is. I digress, how about this quote, "I told my wife last year, when Tebow was a freshman, that he would be a force as a starting quarterback and a candidate for the Heisman Trophy. It feels good to be right! I'm from Mississippi, but Tim Tebow is a hero in my eyes."
Wow. Please tell me you don't sit around and discuss the merits of a 20 year old. And enough with the tired cliche's of yesteryear. Strong as an ox? Looks like a champion? Is that because he is white? Does a black quarterback from the pacific northwest not look like a champion to you? And with regards to the competition Dixon faced, I think that you must realize that the Pac 10 is a strong conference, and there is a real reason why teams keep beating each other, and that is because they are talented. Just because fans don't live and die with college football, as they do in the south does not mean it is less important, or the teams worse off. And just look at how far Oregon has fallen without Dixon. It just goes to show you how talented the kid really is.

What I said is true. And the reason more people are --"afraid"--as someone said to say how great Tim is-is because he is white. If Tim Tebow were black he would be touted even more! I said it!
Now, when you mock me with my reasons for believing Tim Tebow should be the Heisman, you failed to quote the 20+ passing touchdowns and 20+ running touchdowns that have never been done before...why's that? I don't just sit around and discuss the life of a 20 year old, but this guy is beyond great. He has class both on the field and off the field. Did you know he is an honor student? I'm not prejudice, just objective. He is is clearly the deserving winner and after him McFadden from Arkansas. No one else, even a healthy Dixon would come close to these two. The rest are talented, but when it comes to the heisman: "also worthy of mention."

Let me go on record to say this: If Tim Tebow wins the Heisman this years and stays healthy next year, he will go on to win the Heisman back to back.
Tim is not the only great player, just the greatest according to the records and my opinion. I wish McFadden, Dixon, the Hawaian quarterback, the Missouri QB could get some kind of award, too.
Oh, a stat was given last week that Tim Tebow has accounted for more touchdowns this year than 81 teams in division 1A have been able to make as individual teams!

Tebow should win hands-down. 22 rushing touchdowns and 29 TD's passing the ball, only 6 interceptions, almost 180 rating...numbers don't lie!
