Arguably, Alabama suffered a classic letdown game loss after the effort against LSU last week. Well, except for the fact that Mississippi State was also slated for a letdown game of their own after upsetting Kentucky on the road. Kind of makes that argument a wash, so let's just skip that.Neither team put on much of an offensive performance. Neither team could break 300 yards of total offense. Only 1 offensive touchdown between both teams in the game.
Mississippi State had only one offensive series that exceeded 50 yards of offense. Alabama had only two drives of over 50 yards. One ended in a field goal and the other was intercepted in the endzone and returned 100 yards for a Mississippi State touchdown.
That interception was the big play of the game. At a minimum it was a ten point swing for the Bulldogs. It not only gave Mississippi State a 1 point lead at the half, but it stopped Alabama from at least getting a field goal.
It also seemed to sap the confidence of Alabama QB John Parker Wilson. It showed as he came out in the second half and promptly threw another interception deep in his own side of the field. Mississippi State converted that into another TD.
Mississippi State's defense kept the Alabama offense off-balance the entire game. The Bulldog offense only seemed to do just enough despite four 3-and-outs

What is it going to take for Saban to play someone other than Jon Wilson?By the way, I left out the "Parker" out of disrespect.
I know the old saying about winning and loosing as a team but I can not believe JPW threw that ball as he was being sacked. Pair that with the fumble at the LSU game and I am not sure what the problem is. Can a summer with Major Applewhite help him and his poor decison making? We all knew that one year with Coach Saban at the helm was not going to fix all the problems. I was hoping Bama would go somewhere other than the Independece Bowl. Auburn just got waxed by Georgia so there is still hope for the Iron Bowl.
Roll Tide
So did anyone else notice that Alabama paid Saban $1million for each of his field goals in this game?
hahahahaha...Maybe they'll decide to get their money back at the end of this year, too.
Just want to say GOOOOOOOOO Daaaawwwwgs!!!!
Say what you want, but Mississippi State played a heck of a game today.
I am not sure what happened to Alabama, but did they realy deserve the ranking they had coming into this game???Let's see what the polls think tomorrow morning....
I love the University and the Crimson Tide, but this is poetic justice for not hiring Sylvester Croom when he, a Bryant disciple, Tuscaloosa native, and truly great man, was available in 2003. We had a chance to tell the world that George Wallace's stance on segregation was in the distant past, and instead we blew it on a decent fellow with a great pedigree.

Bama cant buy its students books but they can sure buy a 32 million dollar lemon.I think Shulas' record was better last year and if he had stayed bamer would probably have a better record this year a maybe a buck or two for the students. The problem with bama is they think ACADEMICS IS OVER RATED IN COLLEGE.
Iron bowl...lol, more like the tin bowl
Congratulations to MSU for their first 6 win season this decade. How long did it take Croom to get a 6 win season - 4 years. So before you trash talk Saban in his first year and how Bama overpaid, maybe we should look back over the last 4 years and see some of the loses MSU had. There are lots to chose from.
pure simple, alabama was outplayed, outwitted, and msu survived a sweet and deserved victory with croom at the wheel, a former alababama player and coach under THE BEAR. give sabin a little time as those bucks keep doling out.
And since when did the BEAR run a west coast offense.
I am tired of hearing people making some lame attempt at connecting Sylvester Croom's sucess as Mississippi State head coach to Alabama???
If you continue to disrespect the man at least have the decency to address ALL of his experience. That would mean you guys need to go back and do your homework on where all the man has coached. He is not the sum of one experience a really long time ago and please do not disrespect the man in assuming that, just so that you can feel better about having lost...as if you were beaten by your own. While he may have attended school there and coached there, that was a long time ago and I am sure that Coach Croom calls upon ALL of his experiences to do the job that he does....so can we finaly just let that gossamer connection to Alabama go for once and measure the man on what he does and what he is instead of where he came from???
I am a Bama fan, and I make no bones about it. But we have been bad for awhile. Granted there have been decent years along the way, isolated though they be. Whatever problems have arisen over the years will not be solve under one season under Saban. We will know more about the Saban era at Bama once the team is composed of mainly his recruits. He has proven to be a winner at other places, and I am hopeful that he can do the same at Bama. For now, however, props to Georgia, Florida State, Louisiana State and Mississippi State. And I'll probably be offering that to Auburn. What then? Well, we'll get to a bowl and turn our attention to the hoops and the diamond for awhile and gather again in 2008 for another year on the gridiron. Roll Tide!!!
Croom and Mississippi State have become the Grambling State of the SEC, Nolan Richardson of Arkansas, and I can't remember the so & so of Georgetown. The only respect the program can get is beating a program that is stable. Sure, a win over Kentucky & Alabama. Give Saban 1-3 more years to complete the rebuilding and they will dish out a dog spanking like LSU put on him this season. It's all a bunch of crap. Croom is a joke. I ashamed that he ever played at Alabama.
