Of course, that's not what Coach Tuberville said when asked about the dirty play that took LSU's Glen Dorsey out of the game. What he actually said was this:"Those things happen. We do not teach it. We will not teach it," Tuberville said. "We won't tolerate it. One thing all the coaches in our league have talked about is chop blocks at the line of scrimmage and roughing the quarterback. We want the officials to call those. That should have been a 15-yard penalty. Glenn Dorsey's a great player. He's very athletic. He's one of the best I've seen in the last 10 or 15 years as a defensive lineman.""We won't tolerate it," says Tuberville. So what's he going to do about it? Absolutely nothing. He talked to the guys, of course, and determined that they didn't have any "malice" when they took the cheap shot. Well, that's reassuring.
Just a note to Coach Tuberville: if you "didn't tolerate" chop blocks, there would be some consequences for committing one, regardless of whether or not you think there was "malice." Looking at the video, though, there's just not another explanation. It was a cheap shot, through and through. (Video after the jump)
Nah, no malice there, Ramsey just dove straight into the side Dorsey's knee while he was being held up by a teammate. Perfectly innocent play, right Coach? I'm sure this had nothing to do with the several plays on which Dorsey just manhandled Ramsey.
It's good to hear that Dorsey is expected to play against Alabama, but Ramsey should be benched for AT LEAST two games, if not the rest of the season. This kind of thing is against the rules not because it's particularly unfair, but because it can end a player's career. I don't see any reason that Ramsey should step foot on the field for the rest of the year.
At some point, somebody's going to have to send a message that cheapshots are not going to be tolerated. Tuberville said as much, but his actions clearly indicate the opposite. In fact, what I'm gathering from Auburn's Head Coach is: "Do it all you want, but have the common sense to lie about it later."

Comments (Page 1 of 2)
Actually the real problem here is Rogers Redding and Mike Slive. The SEC has to get its act together. Their tolerance for LOUSY officiating is making the SEC that laughing stock of the country. Tuberville is a scummy coach to be sure, but he gets his license from the SEC Office. It's time for LSU to stop playing nice and to stop groveling. We've sent letters of apology to these morons. Note to LSU Athletic Administration . . . DON'T YOU EVER even think about doing something like that again. Sorry about the rant, but I'm still burning up over this. There's a lot of history between these teams and this just adds to an already long laundry list of transgressions.
Pete, I agree that if the chop block was intentional (and it looks as it is) there should be consequences suffered by Ramsey. But you're not the moral police and sure as hell aren't qualified to be the judge of either Tubberville, Ramsey, or the play in question. And as a Bammer you're in no position to question how Tuberville disciplines his players considering how Slick Nick refused to make his punishments public (and no I don't for a minute think he didn't make upchurh and company suffer). You don't think Ramsey might not be puking from running stadiums as I type this? Don't be a simpleton Tuberville has run a clean program and there is no reason to believe he will let Ramsey skate. Rise above the typical trailor park alumni level of bashing, if you can (we already have Finebaum for the moronic pot stirring).
"Trailer park alumni"? Psychologists call this "projection".
Coming in here with some half-assed defense is typical of you, Todd, so it's not like I'm surprised. You gripe about anything written here that's not uniformly polly-anna-positive from the Auburn stand-point... but...
Call me when an Alabama player takes a cheap shot like that one. It's just not how our boys play, and if any of them do I'd be more than happy to support a fan of any team who calls for them to be suspended for the season. It's uncalled for, dangerous, and shouldn't be "tolerated".
Puking from stadiums is not enough, although if you actually read what Tuberville said, it doesn't sound like there's going to be anything happening to Ramsey because it was an 'accident'.
We're going to have to hope the SEC will do something, though after the helmet-swinging earlier in the season, I somehow doubt it.
It happens every game , no worse than a helmet to helmet lick LSU was called for. If they would tighten up on the holding , etc. the games would be cleaner. There's holding on every play. That's not the only chop block called on a team this year. Years ago it wasn't even called. LSU is no saint.
A fine judge of who plays clean LSU. Haaa a team and a fan base known to all other SEC fans and schools to be cheap shots and unsportsmen like. Check again befor you speak Tuberville is one of the most if not the most stand up good guys. Besides when LSU gets the benifit of several terrable calls (flag picked up on touch down Play that was easly a penelty as well as several favorable ball spots that happen at the critical time of the game) Tell me the refs. are really doing their job. I do agree that it was an illegal chop block but how often does it happen to unknown players and nothing is said and no one called for it and not repremanded for it but it is still wrong I do hope the best for Dorsey I love to watch him play and represent the SEC. But be informed on the people you call scummy of a coach that is accually willing to suspend any player for even a small infraction besides have you meet the man I have and I resent the personal attack at him. Oh by the way just for the record the fake fild goal toss over the sholder was not that original (Auburn vs. LSU) Tuberville pulled it on LSU in the late 90's with Damond Duvall for a touch down in a loppsided upset. All that being said good luck to LSU from here on out Please take out Bama but rember your in the SEC and NCAA an BCS has a record of screwing most SEC teams when they can.
Pete this isn't being looked at as serious as you are taking it. Oh well, you are an Bammer. And if you think Saban is running a cleaner program than I have no other response. It doesn't surprise me that you would take a shot at Tubs. He's has one of the cleanest programs in the SEC. So what makes you think Ramsey is gonna get away with this? And don't give me that b.s. about being a fair writer. If a Bama lineman had done this I wouldn't expect an article. Obstruction of justice, disorderly conduct, RESISTING ARREST, and profanity towards an officer is sooo much better!
I haven't been following this as closely as you guys in Alabama, but is there any indication that Tuberville will not be punishing Ramsay? His comments seem to indicate that punishment is on its way, although I suppose we'll have to wait and see. At any rate, I've always been impressed with Tuberville's pride in his program's dignity. He has no botches on his reputation that I know of. Auburn used to be well known as a somewhat dirty program under Pat Dye, but those days seem to be over. And, from an outsider's point of view, I'd take Auburn over Alabama in a battle of who's more respectable. That said, Ramsey deserves punishment for what was a very dirty play, so I hope Tuberville takes action.
Looks like we have some Auburn Soc. majors here in the comments.
Tuberville said: "[T]here was no malice at all, no trying to hurt anybody or intentionally do anything. We were just trying to block. But again, it should have been called. We will not condone it or teach it, and there's no place for that in college football. If you think it's malice, where a guy's trying to hurt someone, I'd take action. But it's just heat of the moment"
The relevant portion: "If . . . it's malice, . . . I'd take action. But it's just heat of the moment."
Natural conclusion to that sentence: "If it was malice, I'd take action, but it wasn't, so I won't."
Yeah...it was a cheap shot, but things like that happen in football. Chaz got tossed by Dorsey, his adrenaline was pumping, and he did something he shouldn't have done. The people that write these "hate" articles don't know what it's like to play football at all, and thus have no reason to write articles trash talking a college FRESHMAN. He's not a professional athlete, if he was, it'd be different, and he did something stupid like any 18 year old would do. Stop writing dumb articles.
Also, did you not see the spot that was given to LSU that allowed them to cheaply win the game. It should have been 4th and 1, and they gave them a 1st and 10 on their final drive, which allowed them to win. Basically, bad officiating throughout the game overall...the SEC needs good refs, as it is the overall best conference.
I agree the SEC officials are at their worst. And btw Tommy suspended his best receiver in Robert Dunn for the game at LSU. And we don't know what's going on right now in practice with Chaz either. I usually respect your article Pete, even if you are a Bammer, but this article was just a cheap stab at Tubs and his character. Compare that to Nutt, Saban, Fulmer, etc.
In the pregame show the genuis Les Miles said: we will play with violence.....well, look who's complaining now.
And a writer who comes from the school which produced a permanently disfigured Ga Tech player named Chick Graning has no room to talk.
Doesn't make the play right, but the hypocrisy is pretty obvious.
Pete: I misread the article, and stand corrected. Tuberville needs to discipline this guy with a one game suspension. I'll buy that there was no malice and that it happened in the moment, but that's not really the issue. Guys have to be well enough disciplined not to do this kind of thing, heat of the moment or not. Tuberville needs to set a precedent here. I don't think he needs to be put out for the season, but one game would be appropriate. Tuberville could take a page out of the Urban Meyer disciplinary handbook and suspend him for the upcoming Tenn Tech game and have him back for Georgia.
Petey, if you knew anything about what you were talking about you would know that it wasn't intentional and it wasn't even Ramsey's fault. Tuberville explained after the game that Ramsey was supposed to chop Dorsey on that play. Ziemba was supposed to be blocking someone else but there was no one in front of him so he blocked Dorsey. At worst, it is a case of two freshman players not having enough experience to know how to make their blocks.
But I wouldn't expect anything different from a Bammer. The Bammers' disgust for Tubs has been mounting for the last 6 years since he's made the vaunted Tide his personal beotch & made the Tide irrelevent in college football. But keep taking your shots and keep tuning in to Finebaum to hear how Tubs is going to Texas A&M. That will give you something to do until the trip to Auburn in a month for the Tide's annual beatdown.
First, the sheer audacity of some unknown Alabama alum going after another school's academics is laughable.
Thankfully, a plethora of very lightly used textbooks are on sale in Tuscaloosa, so the unenlightened like Pete can engage in a little self-improvement while providing a more comfortable lifestyle for a few of the Tide's finest.
I find it hard to believe anything resembling a dirty play would be punished in Tuscaloosa. Clearly going to jail doesn't warrant any sort of discipline. The writer wants accountability, unless of course it involves something like, I don't know...mysterious grade changing for Alabama football commits.
This is just like the political world where the operatives, hacks, and spinmeisters try to turn anything into proof that the other side is not just wrong, but evil. Pete here is a Bama homer, and is proving it once again. No doubt some Auburn nutcase would do the same if this had involved a Bama player. Tuberville explained exactly what happened, and there was clearly no malice. If this was really dirty, one is forced to explain how it is that Ramsey hasn't done anything like this before. Some have claimed that it was because Dorsey shoved him aside like a rag doll on a previous play, but that was two quarters earlier. On the drive in question, Auburn was actually moving the ball for the only time in the third quarter and Dorsey was being held in check. This is just stupid. Pete says, "It's just not how our boys play." Well, it's not how Auburn plays, either, as evidenced by the fact that Tuberville's teams do not have a reputation for dirty play, unlike some other schools in the conference. As for the LSU idiots, let them explain why it's O.K. for one of their players to intentionally spear South Carolina's Captain Munnerlin (sp?) in the back of the head while he was lying on the ground before they say another peep about this clearly accidental play.
The You Tube video focuses on Zeimba and Ramsey. Is there video that shows the entire O-line? I read and article that had quotes from Hugh Nall the O-line coach that said that the blocking scheme called for ALL the linemen to chop on the play, a legal blocking scheme. From what Nall said, Zeimba was the one that messed up by engaging Dorsey, making the chop by Ramsey illegal. Get some video that shows the entire line blocking!
I was hoping this blog wouldn't even get any comments.

Please don't try and correct Pete he is an all knowing self absolving pencil pusher. And I would be shocked if he ever strapped on a helmet at any level. His comments towards me could be practiced on himself in the mirror with honesty and feeling. He knows that when it comes to AU he couldn't write an objective article or comment if his life depended on it. He has shown time and again that he is incapable. Even the bammers that work for me as well as my UA alumni brother have said the same (and my brother is one of the worst bammer homers I know). I will repeat for you Pete "as a Bammer you're in no position to question how Tuberville disciplines his players considering how Slick Nick refused to make his punishments public ". And as for the Trailor Park Alumni comment hell I see the fine Bammers every day with "Roll Tide" strategically pasted between the Number 8's on their rear window of their car. And I had the distinct pleasure of sitting next to one at a local sports bar for the Auburn-Arkansas game......after listening to his cursing at AU (in front of numerous females) and screaming for the hogs for a half I ask him if he could even spell Tuscaloosa. Man did he get quiet. Typical.
"It's just not how our boys play"....but your not a gump, Pete? Come on.

Yes, it was a nasty cheap-shot block. Intentional, or unintentional, we may never know for sure. Auburn cut-blocks a lot. You have two true freshmen out there, who both mess up a lot. Nall and Tubs may be telling the truth. But, consider this: how many OTHER interior line transgressions by Auburn have been caught by the TV cameras this year? You'd think that if we were in the business of dislocating knees, it would have shown up before. The SEC's passed on the whole matter. I'm sure our O-line will be under scrutiny in the future. In the meantime, I say Tubs has the right to handle the way he wants. I think few can argue that he doesn't come down hard on rules-breakers... No way I would suspend my most dangerous linebacker 6 games over a non-driving alcohol arrest!
In fact, it's a tribute to the ESPN camera crew, that this is such a hot topic of conversation, at all. Same for the "Tuberville is terrible, why didn't he challenge the spot?" bunch. Only us home viewers had the "training wheel" yellow line painted on the screen, for us to second-guess on. That yellow line is sometimes wrong, too.
I'm looking forward to playing Ole Miss, this weekend. My tickets are on the 40, right behind the Ole Miss bench. I can't wait to see Coach O's antics!
