So what's worse? Losing to a Division-II (yeah, yeah, I know it's FCS now but I'm stubborn and stuck in my ways) school like North Dakota State? Or losing to North Dakota State and not surprising anybody by doing so?Last Friday when doing my daily reading, I found a couple of Big Ten "experts" who were picking North Dakota State over Minnesota. I also heard Mark May say on ESPN Saturday morning that he wouldn't be surprised if Minnesota lost as well.
So now that Minnesota has lost to North Dakota State, a team with 33 players from the state of Minnesota that weren't recruited by the Gophers, and is 1-7 on the season it's only natural to start wondering if Tim Brewster is going to get fired soon.
He's not, as the school's president, Robert Bruininks, says Brewster isn't going anywhere.
"There is going to be some pain in the rebuilding of the Gophers football program, but I'm sure we did the right thing," said the chief executive of Gopherville, who is committed to giving Brewster time to rebuild the program. It's only fair that Brewster shouldn't feel any heat from the Gophers performance this season. He's only in his first year at Minnesota, and he's going to need some time to clean up Glen Mason's mess. There just hasn't been enough time to evaluate what kind of recruiter Brewster is, or how good of a coach he is.

Division II and FCS are not the same thing. NDSU is a I-AA school. You said it will take a while for Brewster to clean up Glen Mason's mess. Didn't Mason take the Gophers to Bowl Games the last 6 years? The truth of the matter is that Brewster is all talk, and no substance. Even if he is a fantastic recruiter, he can't coach, and talent does not do you much good if you don't know how to motivate and coach players.

This article is stupid and was not worth reading. The author Fornelli clearly knows nothing about football since he does not know the difference between Division 1 - AA (where North Dakota State actually plays) and Division 2. Yes, there are 33 players from Minnesota on the North Dakota State team, but the line about none of them being recruited by Minnesota is untrue hype from the Big Ten Network's biased broadcast of the game. The fact is that all the North Dakota State players were recruited to at least walk on at Minnesota and most were offered scholarships, but they chose to go to the fastest growing college football program in America over third rate Minnesota from the second rate Big 10 Conference.
Minnesota is getting exactly what it deserves for its disgraceful knee jerk firing of Glen Mason just because the powerful Texas Tech offense made a stunning come back in 1 bowl game last year against Minnesota. There was no mess to clean up as Mason took a bad program to a bowl every year and got 7 to 8 wins out of no talent teams. The problem is that Minnesota got too big for their britches and has unrealistic expectations for their program, so they fired Mason and went looking for a new coach without having any clue as to what they were doing. Tim Brewster is a fraud who was never a head coach or even a coordinator on any level of football (his claim to fame is coaching tight ends, big deal).
Brewster should be fired immediately because he is a bad coach who will never be any good, but he will survive this year. Next year Brewster will be fired before Minnesota opens their new stadium. Minnesota will then try and fail for a second time to lure a real coach to their crappy school. Mean while, North Dakota State and Mason will just keep laughing at the inept little rodents from Minnesota.
