At 84 years young, legendary 'Dawg radio announcer Larry Munson might pull the plug on the '07 season. Munson has handled play-by-play radio duties for Georgia football for the past forty seasons. If you've never heard the voice of the Bulldogs, you're missing out on a legend. His overtly gravelly voice reminds one of a southern Walter Cronkite and he pulls no punches about his bias towards his beloved team: Munson refers to the 'Dawgs as "we."
Say it about half as fast as the average modern cadence and inject total neutrality into every word, and you have an approximation of Munson: "3rd down and three. We're in an 'I'. Can we convert... ? The ball is snapped and Green hands it off and... first down. Time out. Green jogs to the sideline to talk it over. Our line is getting a good push."
From the Dawg Post: ($)
"I don't know," Munson said from his home Monday. "I'm almost 50-50. I don't know what I'm going to do. I absolutely have plans to do it, but things are just getting worse and worse."
"I can't run, and I can't walk," he said. "I can't use my hands; I can't close my hands. It's just so stupid."
Forgive the man for complaining. A full day of football -- just sitting and watching it, much less actually working a game -- wears most of us out as it is. After 40 years of legendary calls such as "Run Lindsey Run," Munson is fully deserving of a rest. But college football will miss him when he finally steps away from the microphone for the final time.

Well, we all knew this was coming eventually. Now, please please please let the replacemnt play-by-play man be Scott Howard, and please please please let Jeff Dantzler get the job as color man. Scott filled in for Larry on a game a few years ago when Larry had surgery (or some other ailment), and he was great. Scott and Jeff are both "homers," and they do a great job of broadcasting Dogs basketball. Should we start a letter-writing campaign to Damon?

From and outsider of GA football but love the red color........Go Bucks.
We were driving up to Kiawah Island to vacation a year ago, he Larry M was doing the Ga. game. My husband and I could not believe this play calling and remarks, we laugh and cried at the game calling but realize this MAN was Ga. Football and thought it was the best game we had liston too on the radio in many years. God Bless him and his love for Ga. My heart beyonds to "The OHIO STATE" program and I never call a game, as you would not like to hear the games I would credit the other team for....I know many join me in saying, Larry thanks for the memoies and hope for you return or enjoy listening to the game with your memories.

Neutral would be: Can Georgia/They convert
The Georgia line is getting a good push. Sayonara to the Skip Caray of Football.

I am now a NC DAWG, since I moved to Cullowhee, NC, but I am in Athens every game and it amazes me how many radio ear phones I see. I wonder why we even need an address system in the stadium. I hear that Larry might just be doing the home games.
My thoughts are it will difficult to change, but Larry needs to take care of himself and Iknow that all of the DAWG NATION wants him to do well.
