Or is it Hula partner? Or Haka partner? Whatever, the Hawaii football program needs a 13th opponent but threw in the towel a few days ago.The University of Hawaii has failed to add a 13th opponent and will play a 12-game football schedule this season, officials said Friday.I have a feeling we may need to reference this in December when Hawaii is undefeated or something darn near it and people start grousing about their weak out-of-conference slate. We warned you, it's coming!
The schedule includes seven homes games, including two against Division I-AA opponents. Because of an exemption, the Warriors are allowed to play 13 regular-season games.
"After a long and exhaustive process that included discussions with several schools, no team we targeted for a 13th game would agree to play at UH in 2007," Hawaii athletics director Herman Frazier said.
I realize travel's expensive lately, but certainly someone in D-I should have been willing to make the finest road trip in all of college football. Or maybe Hawaii was unwilling to play that special someone? Who knows.

Other Division 1 schools play 12 games. Hawaii just does not get the extra game the NCAA allows that school. More likely, Division 1 schools do not want to travel to Hawaii to get romped. Hawaii has Colt Brennan and the nation's number one offense. Michigan State lost to Hawaii by 20, so has Purdue last year and Arizona State and darn near everyone else that travels there. Nothing more to it than that.
Herman Failure, the Athletic Director started scheduling too late. This was a huge error in a year where the program should be showcased with the nation's best offense and a Heisman hopeful quarterback and team that desired to play the very best. With the exception of one additional Diivision IAA team, their schedule is near identical to Boise State's. But frankly, over the past several years, Hawaii creams any Division 1 team at home and has been winning on the road as well. They put up 500 to 600 yards of offense vs. USC, Alabama, Oregon State, Purdue, Michigan State and all comers.
Herman Frazier states that even Boise St. who could play a 13th game, plays only 12. Well, if he had not started so late we would be playing 13 and only one, not two Division 1AA schools. It is a bit easier, by the way, to lure teams to come to and enjoy Hawaii vs. the ugly blue field and cold weather of Boise, ID. He should take ownership for his mistakes. The program is $8,000 to the good only because Michigan St. chickened out and paid a $250,000 penalty. Then he calles Colt Brennan on the carpet for commenting on facilities instead of taking ownership once again. Sad.
Hawaii has a weak 2007 schedule. The coach and players admit it. They do not want to play a weak non-conference schedule like most of the big schools do. They want to play the best in the nation and feature Colt Brennan. The schedule is the fault of the A.D., Herman Frazier, who appears clueless, went to a bunch of worthless track events that do Hawaii absolutely no good and then makes excuses for this late efforts. Hawaii may go undefeated if they get past Nevada, and may receive a bunch of criticism, but blame the A.D., not the players or coach.
