The Reggie Bush saga in Southern California is unraveling faster than a New England Patriots lead. The news out of Los Angeles is getting worse by the day. Recent news of audio tapes confirming that Bush and his family were "on the take" while still in college raises some very interesting questions.
Will Bush be stripped of his Heisman Trophy? Will USC lose its national championship? The likelihood of either happening is looking pretty good. The NCAA will certainly be pushed into action if these tapes are authenticated.
The results could be historic. What will the BCS do? If the NCAA takes away the Trojans victories from 2004, the BCS will have little option but to take back its championship. The same will hold true for the Associated Press. They will be left with two options. One would be to vacate the title and leave that way. The other would be to crown the second ranked team that season as its national champion.
That of course, is Auburn. Wouldn't it be ironic if Auburn, after being screwed by the BCS, ended up as national champions? There's no question that in hindsight, the 2004 squad would have given USC a run for its money and have had a good chance of winning (see Florida 2006).
Two months ago, I would have said this was a pipe dream. Today, I think it's very possible. Maybe we can get the BCS and AP to present the trophy during halftime of the Auburn-Alabama game at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Too little too late you say? Not me, I'll take it. Finders keepers.

The title would simply be vacated.
Even if somehow the BCS were to award it to a team it would be to the title-game runner-up, not Auburn.
Oklahoma, in other words.
You guys still don't get it.
Also, if you read the case a little closer it's actually collapsing against Bush's accusers. The federal government is in grand jury phase in gathering evidence against them for extortion and they just now changed their story to say that it was in fact Bush's idea for the marketing company so as to not get sued per California statute by USC if USC were to somehow incur damages from this (scholarship losses, probation, lost title, etc.).

I agree with Cabe. While I'm not sure that Auburn deserves or should be happy about snatching a title in such a way, getting blasted by 4 touchdowns like Oklahoma did warrants dropping out of the top five, not winning a title. I'd rather see Utah get it than the Sooners.

Jimmy Ledet should be banned from making anymore posts on this site nor any other for that matter. That was one of the idiotic posts I've ever read. Auburn ratted on Bama which is why they suck? Auburn ratted on Reggie Bush? Your in a world of your on that one Jimbo.
On the subject, I would love to see USC get stripped of a NC no matter who, if anyone, would get it. I'm a big AU fan and the 04 season was a special one but I nor should any other Tiger fan get their hopes up on this one.

I'm sure there have been many players in the past who have accepted money. But he has been accused of something pretty serious and it will be further investigated. College sports aren't the same if we let people get away with this kind of thing. It is an ameteur competition and that's what makes it so special. Reggie has been nice to the media??? Ok media, please don't report anything negative to anyone who has been nice to you.....hahaha.
Reggie Bush is a great athlete, a nice guy and will be a great player. But if he took money of that magnitude during college, there must be action taken for the sake of college football.

Just to play devil's advocate...let's say Bush and his family were "on the take" (most likely not), what does that have to do with his performance or USC's football teams' for that matter? It's not like he's being accused of being on some performance enhancing drug or anything of that nature. The fact remains that SC trounced Oklahoma, and would have dominated any other team that year including Auburn. So get over yourselves haters, SC deserved the national championship trophy. Deal with it!

Jimmy, I think you need to get your facts straight. Auburn had nothing to do with Alabama getting probation for the last couple years and has nothing to do with Reggie Bush right now. If you'd actually read a little then you would know that Tennessee was the school that leaked info that led to Alabama's demise. Auburn would definitely be deserving of the 2004 National Title as they would have destroyed Oklahoma or Utah.

So Jimmy Ledet, do you have any proof of Auburn 'ratting' on Alabama(Phil Fulmer did that for you) or USC/Reggie Bush or is this just some moronic statement you made up. I think we know which is true.
And Fred Smith, well by your comments we all know what your intellegence level is. Must be a Bama fan.

If the admin at USC had been paying any attention at all, they would have known that something was really fishy with Reggie Bush. And it's not just Bush, it's other players that were living in luxury apartments and all kinds of other things that were breaking the rules. I think that USC didn't want to risk a scandal and risk not winning games, so they just looked the other way.
So, USC should not have been in the BCS title game. And based on the way Chokelahoma played in that game, it would be insane to name them the 2004 Champions. Auburn deserved their shot in 2004, and in light of the violations at USC, they deserve it now. Vacate the title "won" by USC, move everyone else up 1 position, and Auburn is the 2004 National Champion. That's the way it ought to be.

Cry me a river Jimmy Ledet. You go blaming Auburn for something they have no hand in. This is all media hunting down stories about a great talent (Bush). If you had any common sense whatsoever you would read what MP had to say. Get your facts straight and realize that Tenn ratted out Bama...Not AU. Stay on your side of the country and smooch up to your one team Pac 10. The AU nation has moved on from being left out of that game. Accusing AU of starting up this story is pathetic and weak. Get a life!

I think all this is great for selling newspapers. I think most all schools have done something to lure top players. It is obvious though that the SEC is the toughest conference top to bottom. Week in and week out any team can beat you. The USC's of college football would crumble in that kind of week to week competition. Let's have a playoff!

Jimmy Ledet and Fred Smith must be offspring of an incestuous relationship. For all you redneck bamers, that means your parents are brother and sister. Their irrational behavior is a classic sign. How else would you explain Jimmy coming up with Auburn ratting out bamer. Fred and Jimmy may even be brothers.
JIMMY, read this very s-l-o-o-o-o-w-l-y. It was all over the national news that Tennesse was behind bamers troubles.
Fred, is your foul mouth comment all you can come up with? This is very typical of redneckitous.
Please fellows, if you don't have anything intelligent to say, don't say anything. It is better to let people think you are a fool than to open your mouth and prove them right.

I'm the biggest Auburn homer there is, and if all this shakes down with USC and Bush getting their title and Heisman, et al, vacated, then the 2004 BCS title needs to be vacated. It would be a slap in the face to Auburn to receive such a title, though I am quite sure that if it were Alabama instead of Auburn being talked about for the posthumous award, there would already be banners and news releases being made over in Trailer-caloosa for NC #13. Bama has no problem awarding themselves retroactive national championships, and I never want to see Auburn stoop to this sorry level. Win it fair and square or not at all.

You can't unring a bell. Yes, Auburn wuz robbed of the chance to play for the title in 2004, but SC won all of its games, got the SI cover, etc., etc. You can't undo that. Mayor Richard Daley's Chicago political machine stole the 1960 presidential election with stuffed ballot boxes, but once Jack Kennedy was sworn in, it became an historical footnote.
Recall that 'Bama was forced to forfeit all of its wins from '93, but did they really? The "official" record books show an 0-13 record for that year, but that's not how the public remembers it, and I guarantee you that UA's media guide doesn't record it that way. Do you really think they went back and changed Stallings' career W-L record to reflect the forfeit?
Bottom line: Even if USC gets stripped of the title, everyone will go on as if nothing has changed. Television commentators will still refer to SC's consecutive titles, and life will go on as before. That's just the way it is.

.....Well, War Eagle!
.....I don't see Auburn getting an "official" national title out of this situation. Even if Reggie Bush is proved to have done the crime, I think the NCAA has to show that the USC administration knew about it and did nothing. That's been the benchmark for forfeits and such since 2001 or so.
.....And now, out in speculation-land, I would guess that IF USC were forced to forfeit those games, then the BCS would simply vacate the title. Or they might do nothing. I'd be shocked if they handed it to Oklahoma, after the Sooners were clobbered. The BCS has long maintained a policy that goes something like this: The BCS Championship game winner is Number 1, the loser Number 2. Thus, it would run counter to that principle to name Auburn the BCS champ.
.....The AP title would remain unchanged, as the AP does not exclude probation/forfeit teams. Auburn won the 1957 AP national championship while on probation.
.....Regardless of what happens, 2004 remains a year with no definitive National Champion, in my mind. But, I do have my set of DVDs I can pop in on a cold winter night, and watch Auburn go 13-0. That's mighty sweet!

Jimmy Ledet is an idiot. That's the only real statement that can be made today. AU had absolutely nothing to do with Bama's problems, either time. IF USC gets stripped of the title, the BCS I believe would just vacate the title.
