UPDATE: Tom was originally misquoted. This post has been changed to reflect the quote more accurately.Saints FanHouse blogger Tom Mantzouranis had a chance to watch Louisville commit Matt Simms -- yes son of Phil, brother of Chris -- lead Don Bosco Prep to the New Jersey State championship. Apparently Simms the youngest didn't take kindly to opposing fans' taunts of "Daddy's Better." Given this was New Jersey, that seems rather tame. Matt didn't see it that way as he helped rout the St. Peter's 41-0.
After every touchdown, Simms taunted the St. Peter's sideline. After taking a knee to end the game, he ran over to the St. Peter's sideline, gave their fans the finger and cursed at them, and continued to taunt the St. Peter's players. The Marauders circled him and a small scrum ensued. Both teams refused to shake hands after the game.
There are video highlights of the game, and you can see Simms run over to taunt the St. Peter's crowd after the game ended.
Geez, and I thought Jimmy "Spiky" Clausen and entourage had it wrapped up for the honor of freshman QB most hoped to fail in 2007 and beyond. I mean, after the Clausen clan's white stretch Hummer cruise into the College Football Hall of Fame to announce that he was committing to Notre Dame, it didn't seem possible for anyone else to come close to looking worse.

Read the statwide blog, Newark Star Ledger, from last to this year. This war has been going on since Bosco lost last year. You don't mention that they, St Peter's, fan base, has been taunting Matt about his brothers spleen having to be removed, his father's success at Giant's Stadium and Matt's inability to get it done there as well. They, Peters, sent Bosco (Matt) a pair of cleats with the last two championship scores (Bosco lost both games) painted on the back and also brought a flag up to Bosco planting it in the Bosco Stadium. They, Prep, went to Bosco games under guise of scouting and taunted Matt at most of these scoutings yelling "Who your daddy" not just the football players, kids, but the coaches also were taunting. All in BLOG.
You my friend, clearly, should loose your job. Because you are a number 1 AH. Get the story right. Matt never gave the finger to anyone just the number 1 sign something like Churchill's v sign. And if he did slip a finger in there, Prep's drunkin parents deserved it. They are the spoiled ones. And jealous. There is video on this also. But u wouldn't know what that was about because u don't waste your time with the real story or history of the any story. You just print to start more trouble and get your name in lights. St Peter's clearly sucks as group of sore loosers and now have joined the "white trash" nation in America. Reality.
They, Peter's, lost big time, 41- o. Absolutely no more compassion for them in any sport. Unless you retract and apologize. Matt has a excuse, he's a 18 year old kid. Who just excitedly won the biggest game of his short life taking 11 other kids to victory listening to a bunch of probably half drunk adults
cuss him out. Did you win a state championship when you were 18 in front of 16,000 screeming people? Half of whom would as soon choke you to death. I doubt it, you looser. How much do you weight. 350 lbs like most other sports jerks who never played the sport they write about. I want you to print your HS record in football and then we will see who the doggie in the window really is.

A flat out lie! Yes, Matt went over to the crowd but never gave the finger. I'm not saying what Matt did was right but St Peters was doing much worse and beyond just taunting. This was building up all week and St. Peter's instigated this whole thing. Way to go Matt! All of the Bosco family is behind you.

First of All, St. Peter's never made a comment about Matt's brother Chris. We know what it is to have class, and we know what its like to use it.
When all is said and done, the whistles are blown, the sidelines clear out, and the teams are gone, Matt Simms is still a scumbag. Not only that but it reflects on the whole school too.
Going to school like Prep, with the outstanding facutly, administration and student body, and being surrounded by some of the greatest kids who always strive for excellence, I often loose track of the fact that there is still this kind of people in this world.
Well once again, this year with his taunting and last year when i watched Matt standing opposite his team all by himself I was able to realize those kind of people present in this world.
The kind of people whose dad put them through school, provides them with a car, and everything they could ever hope for, and aren't grateful for it. The saddest part is people like Matt, and the rest of the kids at Bosco who made comments along the lines of "Prep cleaning up Jersey City" don't understand what its like to live in a world with diversity. Prep attracts kids and faculty from over 140 towns in New Jersey as well as 3 states. Therefore, a Prep kid not only learns about life through the classroom, but through the different great people that surround them in the courtyard or the lunchroom.
Therefore it is undeniable that a Prep kid learns more about life. And in learning more about life they will be able to walk away from school and in the world understanding it, they walk away with and EDUCATION. A Bosco kid walks away from his pampered life and overpaid school with nothing.
Example: Andrew Booth's first comment after winning a state championship in which he intercepted the game winning pass and returned it for a touchdown was, "I hope we brought respect to Prep and to Hudson County." His first thoughts immediately turned to the better of the school and even further to the better of those around him.
Matt Simms, after going only 5-8 for a measly 135 yds (most of which were dump off passes which the reciever ran for most of the yard) first thoughts were "I just wanted to pump a fist and let them know i finally got one." His commentes immediately turned to himself, not understanding the bigger picture.
So Matt, walk away with a ring this year. Because win or lose, this year or last, you still walks away from the field a loser (spelt correctly).

DBP won fair and square - now the series is 1-1 - next year will be rubber match. What Matt Simms did, regardless the provoking, is something he is accountable for and given the fact he is an excellent athlete and he is under the microscope only he has to live with it - given the way the media and society is in general he will never live this down. Unfortunately for him no matter what he accomplishes from this point forward he will be be remembered for his actions after a tremendous senior victory at Giants stadium - we do not live in a society that forgives easily and also true is that DBP will never let it go and the bad blood will spill over to other sports and next year - Matt Simms will be the catalyst (or scapegoat) for all this and you know why SPP did not squash him whilst he was on their sideline or shake hands at midfield? They know where to draw the line. I believe Matt Simms will possibly succeed at Louisville football and beyond but will definitely be marred by this incident no matter what - sorry Matt you're made sports history.

Hey Andy, they certainly don't teach you spelling at Prep. Are you still in 8th grade. You wrote a bunch of nonsense. You talk about the interception in lasts years game. I was at that game and the player who picked off that pass ans scored the winning TD was flagged for unsportsman like conduct. Did you forget that. I was also at this years game and heard the obscene chants that were directed towards Simms. They were classless. Simms was wrong for going to the sidelines after the beating the PREP took. But a mistake by a Kid!! I have seen pro athletes do much worse. The Prep people keep pounding on this Simms thing to deflect the 41 to 0 beating you took on the field. Your fanbase has not shut-up since upsetting Bosco last year, and you can't accept your not even in the same same league as Bosco, and that was demonstrated on the field

Congratulations to Matt Simms and the rest of the Don Bosco football team and coaching staff. I am considering to send our son to Bosco next year and had the priveledge of seeing a few of their games this year. What a complete team in all facets of the game. Matt has nothing to be ashamed of. I can only imagine how much garbage he hears at opposing stadiums. I applaud his accomplishments and wish him well at Louisville. As far as Andy's comments posted on this site, not all Bosco students are living a pampered life.I am a police officer in New Jersey and pretty much live pay check to paycheck to support my wife and three children. I am willing to find ways to send my son to Bosco next year.As far as the school being"overpaid" according to Andy, remember Andy, you get what you pay for. Hopefully my son will be an Ironman next year with more championships to come.

"St Peter's clearly sucks as group of sore loosers and now have joined the "white trash" nation in America."
This is the type of comment that you would expect from a Bosco supporter. There has a been a great deal of trash talk between Bosco and Prep in the last week, and Bosco has represented themselves as classless elitists, from posting racist pictures of Will Hill to berating Jersey City to Matt Simms' actions after the game.
Being a Prep student, I can assure you that students did not waste their time attend Bosco games, and they did not cheer "Daddy's Better" at those games. We have better things to do than watch you guys play; that is for sure. Yes, a flag was planted and cleats were sent. While the cleats may have been a little respectful, this is high school. If Simms cannot control his behavior now, when he plays for Louisville at West Virginia in front of 50,000 screaming fans, what will he do then?
Lastly, these weren't screaming, drunken parents. After every touchdown, Matt stared at "Marauder Nation" as if he was finally proving himself as a quarterback. In actuality, he was making himself look like a fool. After the game ended, he ran to the Prep sideline and began screaming and pointing fingers at the Prep student section, not drunken parents. If Matt cannot take "Daddy's Better," he is surely in for a rude awakening in college.
While the lineman on both team were shaking hands respectfully, and the players were enjoying their victory AS A TEAM, Matt took it upon himself to celebrate by himself. When Kee-Ayre picked off the pass from Simms to basically seal last year's title, did he run over to the Bosco sideline? He celebrated the interception the right way: with his teammates, with class.
Finally, after the last week or two of interacting with Bosco students, I would just like to say how blessed I am to attend St. Peter's Prep. Unlike Bosco, there is diversity; all social classes, backgrounds, ethnicities, and types of people are represented. We aren't fed with a silver spoon, nor do we flaunt or boast about our possessions or accomplishments. While Simms and Bosco won the state championship, they won it in a way which cannot make them proud.
Next year, both these teams will more than likely square off again, and the Prep community cannot wait.

Wow, I knew nothing of this and from what I read (who really knows the absolute specifics??) they both are wrong. Simms is probably more on the wrong end for not showing class no matter what the circumstance. If he had, the result would be far more positive and shine a much brighter light on him and his future. Young or not, he should have some regard and not his brother being the one to cover for his apparently self-centered behavior. This young man has a great deal to learn about REAL life.

Hey, Folks! The "class" system is still alive in this
country. The upper class system is what we all strive
for, but how you handle it is a whole other story. I
can't describe a person with "class," but I sure know
it when I see it. A few examples are Nicole Kidman,
Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, and Don Shula. Yes, Matt
Simms has alot to learn and, hopefully, he'll learn it
soon. Being raised in Franklin Lakes, NJ, is alot like being raised in Holmby Hills, CA!!! You need to
learn to be humble.

I can't believe two HS's would display such a lack of class and sportsmanship. At a state championship game with that level of media exposure - no less. And two top Catholic schools at that. They are supposed to be more disciplined than most. Rise above it gentleman - be the better man.
The coaches should be fired for what they have allowed to go on.

Let us talk about pranks.
Did St. Peter's taunt Simms about losing? Probably. Did They send him cleats with the scores for the last two years on them? Possibly. did they plant a flag on their field with a note saying "we're gonna beat you again"? maybe. but , OH GOD, GOD FORBID FANS TAUNT ATHELETES ON THEIR ATHLETICS! MY GOD, CALL THE COPS! THIS HAS NEVER EVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN LIFE!
Now let us talk about Don Bosco. I have a firsthand account from one of St. Peter's assistant coaches and one of our priets who was in the crowd, both of whom first complained about the referees, saying they did nothing to quell the taunting going on at all. shame on the refs. Next, they spoke of how Matt Simms in the third quarter, after a Bosco touchdown, ran along the St. Peter's sideline and gave the finger and taunted the players. This is separate from what happened with the fans. Then there's the Bosco coaches, who were taunting our coaches all game long, then proceeded to tell our coaches to go F themselves after the game, starting a shoving match with the coaches.
Next let us talk about the unreported RACIST actions of a select few Don Bosco fans. Yes, the flier that was circulated on game day depicting Will Hill, our black quarterback from East orange, with his number CHANGED TO "25 TO LIFE" WITH A BANANA IN ONE HAND, A GUN IN THE OTHER, AND HIS FACE CHANGED TO THAT OF A BLACK GORILLA"
That, people goes beyond anything, moving straight into RACISM and BIGOTRY. Look on the forums also and you'll see Bosco fans write about how Jersey City is full of nothing but criminals and poor people.
And the Bosco fans respond with "well the St. Peter's coach made that flier themselves to fire up their players"
that is the most idiotic statement ever made. Turn the tables, and see if you think your coach would make that flier about your own team. If you think like that, that I'll say that everything that Bosco is claiming that we did to Matt Simms was done by the Don Bosco coach and their fans just to fire up Matt Simms.
In either case, I'd love to see how Matt Simms reacts to 20,000 screaming fans in the NCAA.

It's funny how people have the NERVE to critize young 18 year old kids about how they play and who there family is. People claim he's spoiled and is not as good as his father or make fun of a brother who was seriously injured. Let me tell you the discipline and strength and agility it takes to go out there day after day and week after week and stand up and be proud of who he is and where he is right now in life. Don't blame the kid for the things in life you couldn't have or accomplish. You are from Catholic schools...one of the commandments is do unto others as you want done to you...but I guess no one is paying attention to the education now are they?
And don't get me started about the dam social classes, backgrounds and ethnicities....enough with that dam argument!!! What is the difference if kids go to one school compared to the other. Where I live most of the kids go to a certain school because they have a better sports program than the other....don't blame it on money or silver spoons....you can get a scholarship to any of those ritzy schools....so tell your kids to start paying more attention in the academics and maybe they can go there....or better yet maybe they need to adjust their football skills and they could play for a better school.
The problem is, is that these kids learn what you teach them and if you teach them jealousy, ridicule, ignorance and arrogance then you taught them to be a jerk just like yourself. Ponder on that for a bit.
