What we know now:
- The computers are exceedingly likely to be tied.
- 71% of coaches went for Florida.
- Michigan was ahead on about 86 of 114 Harris poll ballots.
- They need 81 of those to get in unless they get an Anderson-Hester miracle.
Update: AP poll goes to Florida by 3 points. Not relevant, but another indicator that Michigan is hopelessly unlikely to get the Harris landslide that is their last hope.

I'll try to do this as sensitively as possible but...wasn’t Bo a Harris voter?

How can Florida be ahead of OSU in one of the computer rankings, and maybe 2? My brain hurts from trying to understand that

Once again Michigan gets screwed by the coaches. It was the same in 1997 when they wanted to give Tom Osborne a retirement present. Michigan should have been put back to #3 last week if they were under Florida.

If we fail to win enough Harris votes I doubt it will be because Bo died. Amusing though. At least we play USC for pre-season #1 honors. Though it woulda been nice to win back to back titles

The only possible saving grace to all of this is if Florida beats OSU and we beat USC, so we'd finish ahead of OSU in the final poll.
Since that won't happen, I hope both OSU and Michigan win by 40 points, everyone scratches their heads and throws up their arms in disgust, and Mark May gets sodomized by a grizzly bear and set on fire.
Urban Meyer too.

This is disgusting. Michigan is being hurt by not having played the past 2 weeks. I just cannot get over how STUPID this entire system is. I could collect a class of 2nd graders to put a better system in.

Wait, I'm confused. If we're ahead in 86 of the Harris Poll ballots and we need 81 to get in, isn't that good? Or is 86 a typo?

Jeremy, even if Florida doesn't lose by 90, they'll be consensus #1 if they beat OSU, a team we lost to. Even if its because OSU's first team dies in a plane crash and they play Warren Harding.

Oh well, I guess UM will have to wait until the end of the season to get back to #2, after OSU hands the Gators their asses. Then everyone will say something to the effect of "well, we knew Michigan was really #2, we just didn't want to see a rematch.." and la-de-da. Bottom line - Michigan is getting screwed by the voters for the 2nd time in in the last decade.

Harris published their voters at the beginning of the season, and contrary to the other Mike's comments, Bo was not a member: http://www.harrisinteractive.com/news/newsletters/bcsnews/BCS_Sept_13_2006.pdf
They will also post each voters final votes from today's poll
The coaches poll is confidential so there isn't much accountability. All we know is Tressel's choice to abstain reduced the total number of points available, thus increasing (however so slightly) the final percentage that Florida gets from their position in the Coaches poll.

They're releasing the votes of all the coaches for the final ballot.

One way to determine if it should be Michigan or Florida ask the bookmakers to put a spread on the game. They know who "should" win the game.

I think Michigan is the #2 team in the country, but like most coaches I don't see how you can give them another shot at OSU when they had their opportunity in the final game of the regular season. If OSU had lost I think they should have dropped as well. A rematch just doesn't make sense because if Michigan did manage to beat OSU then both teams would finish with identical records (having lost only to each other). If that actually happened, then who should really be crowned as the National Champions? In that scenario I would want to see a 3rd game between the two schools!

My calculations has Michigan with a .001 or so advantage over Florida if the computers tie and Michigan has a 27 vote advantage in the Harris. Am I doing something wrong?

We need a football play off ,,the pac-10 and the big 10 should have just like the SE and ACC and the winnner could play for the national title,, instead of a phone media BCS and etc. the college do it,, why not Universitis,,know why money and Pac and Big ten would lose on their popularity poles.. Wake Forest has won 8 road games this year, including a 30-O at FSU,, this is something a SEC, big Ten or Pac 10 team has not,, so as you talk and take your polarity poles,, get a real and fair play off system..

chrth: the final ballot after the bowls, right? When they're contractually obligated to vote the winner of the MNC game #1. Not exactly a leap.
Steve: Uh... yes? Michigan needs 71% of the Harris votes, or 81 of the 114. Show your work and we can clear up the discrepancy.
