With a twenty-point lead and less time on the game clock than the play clock against Notre Dame on Saturday, the USC Trojans quizzically decided to run one final play. It seemed not even Head coach Pete Carroll knew what was happening, as he had started to run across the field before returning to the sideline to watch Mark Sanchez take a knee.
Well if you looked closely, you saw Number 24, Ben Malcomson in on that play. All week long, fliers around campus urged students to chant "Put Ben In!" in the final moments of the game--getting playing time on the biggest stage for the 6', 170-pound Daily Trojan reporter who tried walking on to the team last Spring as part of a news story before earning a spot.
In a moment reminiscent of Rudy, the Trojan coaches decided to run one final play to get Malcomson on the field against the Irish. No word yet on who gets the movie rights.

Posers? Maybe next time you should do your homework, Bobby Dodd. ND has more national championships than any other school. Including USC.

Last I checked, this was a new century. Oh, and how do you know that Notre Dame will have more championships than Bobby Dodd's favorite school when the end of the world as we know it comes.
P.S. when the end of the world comes, it won't matter who has more championships, will it?
P.S.S when the end of the world comes, it won't matter that Notre Dame was a poser, will it?

If the South Bend Daily Herald declared ND as the nat. champs in nineteen aught three, you can bet ND fans will claim it as a national championship. They're a lot like Michigan, who claim national titles awarded by the Grand Rapids Times-Journal prior to the war -- the Spanish-American War.

Why do you guys (on both sides) have to belittle the other team? Does it boost your ego to trash the other team? The fact of the matter is that USC and Notre Dame played a football game and USC won; that doesn't mean the world is coming to an end for Notre Dame. There will be a new game next year and the year after that etc etc... and the tide will turn multiple times. Try to keep your dignity in tact and instead of trying to tear down the other school say something that will build up your own school and keep your honor in tact. Competition is a great thing when there is mutual respect. Fight on.

Let's talk about what Notre Dame has done since the inception of the forward pass and wearing helmets.
Notre Dame has not won a bowl game in 13 years. They have lost 8 straight bowl games. That is because they are alway overated and get matched up with superior teams that actually compete against other good teams during he season.
Notre Dame is nothing but nostalgia wrapped in media bullshit, and you IRISH fans keep eating the burrito. Enjoy getting your asses whipped AGAIN on New Years Day. The problem is, the rest of the NCAA fans get cheated out of a competitive bowl game, AGAIN.

Assuming that SC will beat UCLA and thus "pass" on the Rose Bowl, why would the Rose Bowl even consider ND? Michigan beat the crap out of them once already this year! Who would want to see another lopsided game? A LSU-Michigan matchup would be good, but a Florida or Arkansas-Michigan matchup would be even better.

You're a clod, dude. First, Irish fans don't need to reminders about "the inception of the forward pass." Notre Dame INVENTED the forward pass. Indeed--with Army's help, surely--Notre Dame invented modern college football. Second, programs run in cycles. (Like history, though I'm sure you didn't study any of that at the U of Spoiled Children.) Perhaps it's of interest--to the literate members of the board, if not to you--to note that the immortal U of SC itself managed only TWO top-20 finishes in the final AP poll in the pre-Poodle era between 1990 and 2001. (ANCIENT history for somebody with your depth of reference, I realize. Notre Dame, by the way, had eight--several while variously led by Coach Lame and Coach Halt.) Third, the bottom rail eventually ends up on top. Or do you need further evidence? Maybe I need to give you Jimmy Clausen's cellie . . .

Cycles, yeah I get it. Enjoy it while you are on top. At SC we had horrible coaching during the span of 1990-2001 but in that drought we still happen to win the Rose Bowl - TWICE!!!
The fact that was made earlier about ND always getting the nod for premier bowl games over smallers schools that deserve the shot - the absolute truth. You guys are on the bottom, we're on the top, I'm enjoying it right now and I do not see the tables turning any time soon.
P.S. true fact - ND has not beat a top 25 team in the last two seasons. Fight on!
