The Charlotte Observer reported Monday that former Miami Hurricanes and Cleveland Browns coach, Butch Davis, is interested in the UNC head football coaching vacancy."'I don't know what direction they're going to go in,' he said by telephone, 'but I definitely am interested, and I'm interested in getting back into coaching.'This is great news for North Carolina fans, but let's not be too quick to jump the gun.
Davis, an analyst for the NFL Network, said it was 'premature' to discuss the job or his interest in further detail because North Carolina is just beginning its search process with dismissed coach John Bunting directing the team through the end of the season."
Rumors are that some UNC big wigs aren't too interested in Davis and would rather hire an up and coming young coach such as Steve Kragthorpe of Tulsa or Rutgers coach Greg Schiano.
It also makes perfect financial sense for Davis to make these remarks if he's interested in a return to coaching. The more schools that show interest in him, the more money he could potentially demand from schools he really has an interest in...cough...Miami...cough.
At the very least, UNC fans should be excited that there's at least some chance of landing Davis if they decide to pursue his services.

Unfortunately, UNC Athletic Director, Dick Baddour is a dismal failure at hiring coaches and running the athletics department. Every varsity team at UNC has excelled nationally (mens and womens programs) with coaches that were hired prior to Dick Baddour "taking up space" as Athletic Director. Roy Williams was brought to UNC by Dean Smith, not Dick Baddour. One more change obviously need to be made in the athletics' department.

An up and coming coach is a bad idea for UNC. They will use the program as did Mack Brown and ditch after they can move on. We need a coach that is established and will remain loyal. Do not forget the lessons of the past.

Use the program. Mack was there for ten years. You fool, can you name all of the active D-1 coaches present currently longer than 10years. Not even Mack here at UT. Ridiculous. And they were the best years of your football life. Crum, Snavely, Dooley? You'd be lucky to land anyone that will make you 7-4 in the ACC with a Citrus (Orange excepted) Bowl.

Nobody is mentioning Terry Bowden.....He would be an instant success at recruiting etc.....He practically
lobbied for the job on ABC several years ago, when there appeared there would be (and should have been) a UNC coaching vacancy.
