Video has already hit YouTube of the shameful brawl involving Miami and FIU. Watch for the helmet wielding, player stomping and one incredibly impressive body slam. Absolutely horrendous, even worse than the USC v. Clemson brawl of a couple years ago that cost both teams bowl appearances. No word on what the ACC will do about Miami, but I assume it will be extremely strict. This is a huge black eye (literally and figuratively) for the entire league.
EDIT - The reaction of the Miami fans and organization might be even more shameful than the actual brawl. You have the announcer claiming he wants to go down the elevator and join the brawl. Quotes from Miami message boards include "I LOVED IT that may be the start of the U returning this will be a HUGE boost for recruiting", "we needed this in the worst way", "The reason we dominated the second half was due to the fight. Finally the players let out the emotion that has been controlled by a reserved Coker", and many more along the same lines. The fans in the Orange Bowl were cheering. The announcer wanted to leave the booth and join the brawl. Is this what Miami stands for? If so, the ACC should be redfaced that they were ever allowed to join the conference. Utterly ridiculous display by the Miami players, fans, staff and anyone associated with the program.

Nathan,
I'm not gonna lie, I HATE Miami football. Always have. They are nothing but BULLIES, and they play like BULLIES. When all is going well, the talk trash and act like jerks. But when they get smacked in the mouth and challenged by a good football team, THEY QUIT. Just look at the Louisville game this year and the bowl game against LSU last year. COWARDS. Did you see Merriweather repeatedly stomp on an FIU player's head while he was on the ground? Horrible.
At the very end of the video and the very beginning of the video, the play by play guy calls his partner Lamar. I looked it up online and guess who that moron in the booth was? Lamar Thomas.

He's the same guy that George Teague slapped around and took the ball from when Alabama beat the crap out of Miami in the Sugar Bowl for the Natl. Championship.

And he's the same clown that was a bum in the NFL.

they need to suspend these players for the yr an the guy with the helmet swinging an the guy kicking from miami, need to be suspended for the yr an lose their scholarships. miami should be punished with no bowl game this year an next year. same for FIU lose scholarships. this is stupidity an deserves some real reprimand. allowing this to go on is a disgrace to NCAA football.
What the hell kind of program are they running down there in Florida? I can't beleive that a team that well established in the NCAA. would allow street gang thugs to play and attend a school such as theirs! I know this will never happen, but they should shut down the whole fricking program for the rest of the season and exspell the key violators with no exceptions. If they don't they will end going into the NFL and become a bunch o9f over paid misfits just like the commentator Lamar. Biggest waist of talent to ever come out of Miami.
I don't see anything wrong with what just happend. A fight broke out between two football teams. Big deal !!! You want to see some real violence - watch you local news every night !
Houston
I find it funny that when FIU actually started the brawl by hitting the miami kicker, that people all of a sudden assume that miami started the fight. i guess that when miami fights back they are bullies. it's just a shame that Nathan hates the miami program just because they win and he's jealous. too bad that you can't tell the truth. you're on the losing team.
do any have tape of whole game? i was at game on sat night i want to see 1qr because it start earlyer when um player say thing to FIU player miami was my team ontill tonight um SHOULD BE BAN FROM BOWL GAME this slap on face on um and their fans their was fight all over place it was not good place to be this was first time watching um in person that not what i pay for to see vs small school fiu and first meeting
Considering that I'm the Georgia Tech writer for the Fanhouse, I don't remember us being the "losing team" in our last matchup with Miami.
FIU was deplorable. Fortunately for them, they are an 0-7 team in the Sun Belt - nobody really cares on the national scene. Miami is Miami, and there's a recent history for this (Peach Bowl ring a bell?). This is an out of control team, and tonight's fiasco is just shameful to everyone involved.
ALl of you who question Miami are just a bunch of haters and losers who probably are just frustrated with your losing schools. Miami is the best team ever and you are just a bunch of wieners. Miami didn't start this fight and unlike other wuzzy teams they stick together. So all of you can kiss Miami's behind.
~DC~
Canes are finally back!!! Stop crying about Miami being bullies and street thugs. The guys on FIU went to high school with most of the huricane and they came into the orange bowl looking for trouble and got a bit more than those punks could handle. I don't see much harm in hitting a player with a helmet, after all being hit with a helmet is part of the game. When Lmar came to the field level I let him in the gate I was protecting and led him onto the field. He didn't throw any punches, in he helped restore order. I was unable to make my way back to my station and I had no chice but to pick up a disguarded helmet and after leveling 4 or 5 FIU Players I finally made it back to my station. You should have seen their faces when they realized they were just b*tch-slapped by a woman. We need more brawls like this in sports and it's just great entertainment and that's all there is to it. (Linda...Miami)
Why did Miami have to retaliate? Why not just take the free 15 yards, like any smart team would have done?
I'll tell you why, because they WANT TO FIGHT. They want to try and bully people.
Hey Canes fans, how did that stomping thing turn out at Lousiville??? You weren't so tough when the UL's backup RB's and backup QB were kicking your teeth in.
The fact of the matter is that Miami fans are just like Miami players, no class.
Hopefully when aliens come to earth for their visits they never encounter you people, because frankly, you are an embarassment to all of us. And stop watching Scarface so much, it's not that great.
do any one have css game boardcast of fiu vs um??? i donot have comcast tv that only people that can see it i would like to see the game because fight start before big fight i was at game i saw player from both team talk tash
First, I think that Coker should be fired. Not b/c of this debacle but b/c he is a horrible coach. As to what happened tonite, BOTH teams should be ashamed. I grew up with a lot of the players from the early 80's (Miami Northwestern Sr. High) and they played hard and with emotion. We do need that emotion back but it needs to be a controlled emotion. So do I like the fire, yes. But it needs to be a controlled inferno. As to Nathan, Miami is not full of a bunch of BULLIES and Miami players do not QUIT. As an educated person, I am sure you are aware that the City of Miami has peppered the ACC, SEC, Big East and other prominent conferences with some of their best players. More importantly, University of Miami players obviously don't quit b/c they make great NFL players as UM currently has the most players playing in the NFL and has had the most 1st round draft picks from one team than any team in history. So in fact, you should thank UM (and the City of Miami) for providing the rest of the Country with quality football. entertainment.
I agree with Mark, to let these idiots to continue to represent their respective schools on the field would be unacceptable. They should not only be suspended the rest of this season, but should be made to sit out next season as well. They should also be refused transfer to another NCAA school to play, if they sought that as a way around suspension. They are representing their schools in the eyes of the public and should also be expelled from school too and be barred from the sidelines and any school functions. Some of these are the future players in the NFL that our children are going to look up to as role models, as if some that are already there aren't setting bad enough examples with the current troubles they are involved in. As for the ones who had a more violent part in this, such as Merriweather, they should consider filing criminal charges on them. What is the difference between assaulting someone in a violent matter here as to on a public street?
As for the announcer Lamar Thomas, I don't know who he is employed by to broadcast the games, but he should be fired on the spot for condoning such actions and voicing his desire to engage in the on-field brawl.
The NCAA needs to step in and set an example and show that these actions are not acceptable and will not be tolerated, and the sooner the better.
Wow... I think it s incredible how you can generalize and judge Miami. There are worse things in the world than some football players getting into a fight at a game, yes it shouldn't have happen but hey they are only human give them a break. It's not like any of you are perfect. I think people are making too big a deal out of this. It happened get over it.
Hey, miami, u all need to go smoke some more crack and make the realization....u ain t it no mo, u thugs always wuz always will be your too old, let go, its OVER!!!!
wow nathan just becasuse your a loser and couldnt even play for your highschool sports teams, except for maybe the chess team. doesnt mean you need to rag on professional players, loser.
And as for the rest of you against miami n saying ppl should there scholarships, quit crying because you have no talent and your Iq is below 100 and couldnt get into a college must less have a scholarship just quit crying.
and as for the fight, FIU(0-7) started it because they are sore losers. And miami UM did nothing wrong, because dont tell me your gonna take a blow to the face or hit or whatever and not fight back. so yeah.. GO CANES!
Chris - that has to be the comment of the year for me. Awesome.
YEAH, GO CO-CAINES!!!!!!
GO COCAINES
