This is the Year for Auburn to Win it All

Its been nearly 50 years since Auburn won its lone national championship. If they were Alabama, they would have claimed 1983, 1993 and 2004. But because they don't lie to themselves, they'll admit to having just one. If they are to win another one, 2006 is the year.

Never has Auburn had a better opportunity to win the national championship than this year. After watching the first month of the college football season, it's apparent that Auburn and LSU are the class of the conference. Once you get past those two teams, the conference is mediocre mainly because of quarterback troubles around the league.

Watching Florida over the weekend, you get the feeling that Urban Meyer's group still hasn't found itself offensively. Rarely has a team won the SEC with two quarterbacks. This Tebow/Leak combo may work against Kentucky and Alabama, but it's going to be an entirely different story with LSU and Auburn.

Georgia finds itself in the same situation. You cannot win the conference with a freshman quarterback. You can barely beat Ole Miss. Tennessee is improved, but still not a contender in the East. They may get by Georgia this Saturday solely because of the Dogs quarterback troubles. But don't count Mark Richt out. He finds ways to win.

As I said earlier this week, South Carolina is getting better. Don't be surprised to see them go to the Swamp and upset Florida. Is it time to reserve the fireurbanmeyernow.com website? Let the ole ball coach win in Gainsville and you're going to see fireworks. That would be two in a row.

So where does that leave Auburn? The Tigers schedule is perfect. Arkansas will give Auburn a test on Saturday. They have had a week off to prepare. The Tigers defense will see some new wrinkles. But again, it's very unlikely that a freshman quarterback comes into Jordan-Hare and gets a win.

With Florida facing LSU this weekend, you can expect a physical game. Auburn still hasn't recovered from it. It's going to be very difficult for the Gators to follow up two physical games in a row, then come to Pat Dye Field and beat Auburn.

If Auburn is 7-0 two weeks from today, call your bookie and put some hard money on Auburn being in Arizona in January. This team is more than capable of beating either Florida or Georgia more than once.
