In Case You Didn't Know, Lou Holtz Is Really, Really Old

More bloggy goodness with with Southern Miss/UCF game.

With the broadcast coming back from commercial, ESPN sideline reporter Rob Stone was shown during a taped segment "stealing" Lou Holtz's car, part of a rookie hazing incident as tonight is Holtz's first color broadcast.

Stone scolded Holtz for 1)leaving his car unlocked and 2)leaving the keys inside the car. Holtz clearly is not from this era or anything approaching it. People don't leave their front doors unlocked anymore---nor their cars. Holtz could only sheepishly defend himself by saying "I'm a coach! I'm in the business of trusting people" as he turned red in the face.

Luckily for Holtz, he drives a beater. I don't recall the specific make/model, but it was clearly one of those Buick/Oldsmobile class cars, very tiny, very old. Holtz, showing his age, quipped that his car had 99,911 miles on it, and would turn it in after reaching 100,000. It would clearly take only the most desperate of people to steal his car but you have to wonder with all the money he's made coaching, why not assume the control of a fancier ride?

For all his broadcast foibles, Holtz's humor shone through as everyone took shots at teasing him, delivering this entertaining bit:

"You know how to double the value of that car? Fill it with a tank of gas"
